Edward William Dolch, Ph.D., compiled this list of sight words in the 1930s-1940s.
Memorizing these 220 frequently used service words helps students read fluently.
Each of the five levels (Preprimer, Primer, First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade) is arranged in four online
games of 10 to 13 words.
Challenge games represented by crowns are also available for each level.

Edward B. Fry, Ph.D., expanded the Dolch sight word list in his publication,
1000 Instant Words: The Most Common Words for Teaching Reading, Writing and Spelling.
Dr. Fry’s “instant words,” words which readers must recognize in an instant, were arranged by frequency.
The first 300 words of Dr. Fry’s list make up about 65% of published texts.
Words 1-100 are needed for grade 1, words 101-200 for grade 2, and words 201-300 for grade 3.
The online games
are arranged in groups of ten words with challenge games for groups of 50 words.
